Never Summer Wilderness / Lake Agnes
Meghan's family enjoys going outside year-round and they usually plan some sort of mid-winter trip. This year, they rented a cabin with their friends Mark & Lisa (who they canoed the Boundary Waters with a few years ago), and they invited us along. We arrived a day after they did and met Meghan's dad at the trailhead. It was about a two mile snowshoe up to the cabin...and I mean UP.
Mom and Lisa had scrubbed the cabin and had some great food waiting for us. We did a bit of exploring but mostly stuck around the cabin. We did introduce Cards Against Humanity to everyone, which was a riot. Thank goodness for whiskey. The next day we snowshoed up to Lake Agnes. We didn't find the path but instead broke our own—it was a lot of work but the view of the lake was pretty incredible. Dad and Mark skied across the frozen lake while we ate some lunch. We did connect with the with the path on the way down, which made for a much faster exit.
The day we left we went for a little cross country ski and got a few turns in before making our way down. Dad and Mark were determined to ski with our full sleds—which was slow going. We had a few pretty good tip overs but by the time we got to the bottom, everyone had the hang of it.
