This weekend, in preparation for next weekend at Ross Lake, we decided to stretch our legs and get our hike on. We woke up at 6am on Sunday in an attempt to beat the inevitable crowds. Hiking is so popular around Seattle—especially off the I-90 corridor, where we decided to go.
When we got to the parking lot, it was already pretty crowded but thankfully the hike up was relatively peaceful. It took us just over an hour to make the 4-ish mile climb from Alpental up to Snow Lake. We wandered around the water for a bit, admired the views, skipped rocks, considered a swim, ate a few bites of PB&J, and decided to head back down.
The crowd heading up as we made our was down was crazy. It felt like every five minutes we stopped to let a group of 15 people pass by. (That's a definite exaggeration.) Still, the hike was totally worth it and can be done as a backpacking trip, which is probably what we'll do when we head back!
